MGTA 2015 – East Coast Flooding

DRI Malaysia has successfully held its 9th Member’s Get Together Activities (MGTA) at the Concorde Hotel, Kuala Lumpur on the 2nd April, 2015. The theme for this session focused entirely on the East Coast Flooding. This is a special roundtable discussion which had 40 members and invited guests participating and discussing in-depth on this disaster and its impact and future strategies.

At the end of the year in 2014, Malaysia was badly hit by heavy downpour of monsoon rains. Hailed as the worst natural disasters to have hit Malaysia, the rains have caused severe flooding, landslides, buildings and people’s homes were lost. For this session of the MGTA, we have invited Encik Tarmizi Mokhlis, ABCP from Bank Islam and Encik Khairul Ibrahim from Tenaga Nasional to share on their experiences faced during this disaster.

The 1st Presenter,Tarmizi Mokhlis, ABCP,Manager of the Business Continuity department shared about how the flood has impacted the branch, especially the employees, and how the bank responded and activated their BCP in an orderly manner.
Encik Khairul Ibrahim, Manager of the Risk Management department of Tenaga Nasional, the 2nd presenter, presented on how Tenaga Nasional responded and helped both businesses and people hit by the disaster. He also described how the industry and government work hand in hand to go through this difficult time.

To end the MGTA, a Panel of Discussion headed by Puan Zalina Jaflus, CBCP, was conducted to discuss further on the impact, strategies and lesson learnt to enhance resiliency of the organizations and agencies.

We would like to express our sincere thanks and appreciation to our speakers and participants for making this event an interactive and a great platform for sharing across industries. We look forward to seeing you at our next Seminar on 15th September 2015!
